Fools Fools Fools

Win or lose, it don’t mean nothing to no-one, but Miss Indifference, your company tonight and it’s got you feeling all uptight.
It's a fool’s fool’s fool’s paradise,
but you come here every night,
just looking for the keys,
to the queendom on your knees,
to the car it's time to go, it's gone too far.
She’s got 20-20 vision, but there’s no sight of a decision, so you don’t get permission to take flight, and it’s got you feeling all uptight.
It's a fool’s fool’s fool’s paradise,
and you’re drinking here tonight,
just looking for the keys,
to the queendom on your knees,
to the car it's time to go, it's gone too far.
But somehow as the light falls down gently on her face,
you could forget that it’s really not your place to go now.
Let it go now. Let go!
It's a fool’s fool’s fool’s paradise,
but you come here every night,
just looking for the keys,
to the queendom on your knees,
to the car it's time to go,
to the car it's time to go,
to the car it's time to go,
it's gone too far.

I want to dance with you in a dark place,
I want to dance with you in a cold place.
So I can see your breath, and you might hold on like its life or death.
If I danced with you in a dark place.
I want to walk with you in a hard place,
I want to walk with you in a violent place.
So you might take my hand when the thugs are circling.
If I walked with you in a hard place.
Oh and I want to dance with you.
Oh and I want to walk with you.
Oh and if my body's beaten, perhaps your heart beats too?
If I danced, If I walked, with you.

Oh But Wait
03:38
|
|
||
Every word was surrounded by the ghosts of those I did not use.
Well I said too much!
Or did I say anything like that much today?
To you my friend, I just don’t think so.
Oh but wait! Is it my fault?
That there’s tears? Or that there’s just not enough?
Who cares? Only me, and I can’t wait to do it again tomorrow.
So I said too much, to too many.
Too many times, too many truths too many lies.
Too many of those looking folks in the eyes,
And oh didn’t they know.
Oh but wait! Is it my fault?
That there’s tears? Or that there’s just not enough?
Who cares? Only me, and I can’t wait to do it again tomorrow.
So let the train wreck break my neck,
for not knowing which albatross to follow.
Every word was surrounded by the ghosts of those I did not use.

Body Parts
03:40
|
|
||
I like to drink alone and when I leave on the way home steal the mirrors off the cars. You’ve got to swing those fuckers, until they break apart.
Because the hill is long and my feet are weak, and just the wind came out to kiss my cheeks, in the arms of a night with dark red teeth I think of your lips, hips, teeth.
And I miss your physical body parts.
All the way from your dirty mind,
to your cynical seen-it-all beating heart.
Tonight I walk alone, with every step my beard grows, and my load is heavy like a broken heart. You’ve got to pound on those fuckers, until they re-start.

She was nice, much too nice for Steven.
But he’d made the effort to come out for the evening.
So he thought “well why should I be leaving?”
She asked for a high strength lager, but the bar said they had none,
so she asked for a Pimms instead, and he said;
“I see you’re a woman of contrast, you’re kind of fun”.
She told him that she worked in a bar,
but not the kind you’d take a date.
She's not allowed a boyfriend, and sometimes not a break.
And the other girls bitch about all the tips she makes.
And she told him, her family they had sent her to the place that they'd come from, ‘cos they wanted her to see just why they had to run.
And she was going to keep on running.
And she’s got dreams!
Dreams to rent a bedroom that she doesn’t have to share.
With another girl who makes it clear she wishes she wasn’t there.
Steve’s like; "That's quite a story I’ve got to say. So, you share a bedroom? Is she going to be there today? No no no that's not what I was getting at or trying to say… oh well I guess I’ll see you around anyway."
So he wondered to himself as he sadly walked away.
All about that woman just trying to catch a break, as they take from her with both hands while smiling to her face. Well, I hope she keeps on running ’til she runs this whole damn place.

Great Gulfs
04:28
|
|
||
Great gulfs of nothing ripple with waves.
At the sound of your name they say:
“don’t waste any days, because just like people they will slip away”.
And even nothing has time and space, so the theory states.
So you can take some, take some of mine.
I’ve got enough, I do not mind, experiments of the other kind.
You made new by quoting them, old things that I said to you, when I was lost for words. Then all my dreams became loose at the seams, because just like nothing they were not what they seem.

Ghostly Girl
03:25
|
|
||
Ghosts are like dogs, and only strike when you show fear.
Well, I met a ghost and I wish she would re-appear.
But that ghostly girl is never really here.
I’ve seen her walk through the halls and walls of this place.
I’ve felt a cold shiver strike when I’ve seen a similar face.
But that ghostly girl is hard to embrace.

Topaz Galaxy
04:02
|
|
||
Come to me, like melody and show me,
Come to me, like melody and show me,
Come to me, like melody and show me a topaz galaxy.
I can’t always find words. Once I did and they went unheard.
But words that fall on deaf ears lose their sting over the years.
So come to me.
Comfort to me, like poetry and show me,
Comfort to me, like poetry and show me,
Comfort to me, like poetry and show me a topaz galaxy.
I can’t always find the key. I lock myself out in the street.
And I can’t always find the beat, the one the two and the stop. Repeat.
At midnight I saw an empty car roll and bounce up the curb in a business park. It came out of the night like a memory and reminded me of how you came to me. Not uninvited just surprisingly.

Oh I like to hear that bird sing,
Yeah I like to hear that bird sing,
But Femi says his heart shouldn't beat like the raven's wings.
But it does when his mocking bird does what they do.
We’ve all got one of those, and mine looks like you.
But I like to hear that bird sing,
Oh yeah I like to hear that bird sing,
In a voice that is dark like the raven's heart.
With hair that is black, like feathers on her back.
Oh but I like to hear that bird sing.
Hark raven what news do you bring?
From the east? From the west?
From the bosom of your thorny nest?
I’ve been there once, and I have not got back yet!
But I like to hear that bird sing.
Sing it.

Pour Me Out
03:49
|
|
||
I was consulting with my vanity, regarding my place within thew world.
Where am I? Where have I been? Where’s my perfect swing on the trapeze?
As hollow and empty as the space between the stars,
until she broke the silence with a ripple, like cobbles under cars.
We drifted in a golden flood across the land.
Sweet like good words from a bad man.
She took my hand and…
She took me down to the water, and said:
“Do you know how to swim?”
I said:
“I learnt when I was younger, but now I’ve been where I have been”.
She poured me out on the rocks and said:
“Do know how to climb?”
I said:
“I did when I was stronger, but I’ve been lying around a while”.
She stole the controls, with her objectifying gaze.
The thief of consciousness, the staring other.
And I was pulled down, down by the undertow,
into the heaven of irrelevance.
